Well it’s the last day of August in the Year of Our Lord 2026 – here’s 3 interesting browser tabs I have open.
Hot Dogs!
Likely none of us eat hot dogs like we did when we were kids. But we all have thoughts on where to get the best! For me that would be Paul’s Place (Eastern North Carolina where I grew up) or the Rough House (Abbeville, SC not too far from where I live now). But it seems the hot dog capital is actually…Iceland?? Who knew?
Speaking of food, we can all agree that fair food is the apex of cuisine! While that’s totally tongue in the proverbial cheek I did find this list of all the new 2026 foods at the renowned Minnesota State Fair fascinating (and hunger inducing in a few cases).
We’ve all seen those historical markers on the sides of the roads as we travel. There’s usually too much on them to read as you zoom by. Seems like a lot of them are also where you can’t easily pull over to have a closer look. To the rescue is this pretty amazing site – the Historical Marker Database. Learn a lot about history and also you can be prepared to stop and see them for yourself.
